LYSA OLDHAMS [DJ PRODUCER] - Progressive HouseJune 08 Joyce Mercedes [Dj Producer] - Progressive HouseJOYCE MERCEDES Joyce Mercedes star has evolved into a DJ of great stature. Her busy agenda speaks for itself. She will regularly be visiting several continents in one month. Every weekend she packs her recordcases to travel from her hometown of Amsterdam to far and distance places. In 2005 Joyce Mercedes visited more than 30 different countries, an impressive achievement which has made other great DJ s heads spin. This demonstrates that Joyce is exceptionally talented the best female DJ of progressive house in the world. It is not for nothing that she shared the stage with big names such as Sasha, Anthony Pappa, James Holden, Paul van Dyk, Chris Fortier and Derrick May and performed successfully at the Dance Valley and Impulz festivals in the Netherlands. Joyce Mercedes passed her Athenaeum-diploma and began a study Economics. Next to her study in the 90s she started from her birthplace in Nijmegen to work as a dancer for leading organizations like Pantera and X-tension. Then she decided to move to Amsterdam. This was followed by the Strycker & Holmes World Tour in which Joyce performed together with her colleague, a sparkling dance show in some of the most famous clubs in the world. Her passion for music lies in her dancing as well as her singing. In the recent past Joyce was part of Centerfold, the group that sang in 1998 to a sold out Amsterdam Arena during half time of the classic football game Ajax-PSV. Centerfold also added lustre to the 15th year anniversary of Playboy. She also worked regularly as a model, featuring in campaigns for Heineken, Campari, Gap-Star and Playboy, Maxim and FHM magazine. All of this shows her huge passion for music. Joyce then decided to buy some turntables and try to master the art of mixing. Her first performance before an audience took place in sunny Miami at a private party. Quickly the bookings started to roll in, acuminating in the residency DJ spot at the well known Amsterdam Supperclub and the 2 year Space World Tour to crown it all off. At this moment Joyce has performed in almost every famous foreign club in Europe, North America, South-America as well as in the Far East. Without labelling Joyce as a purist, she has progressive house in the most pure form in her blood. The marvellous choice of records shows her nose for quality and her exceptional mix-technique is based on a combination of inborn talent and perseverance. With her various ways of mixing, which is now and then easy and accessible, vocal records will not be avoided, but which is at other moments becomes deep and trippy, Joyce turns out to be a hypnotist who knows how to stun the dance floor. The words funky, techy, full of soul, tribal, trancy and psychedelic can all be found in her musical vocabulary. Her striving for perfection has naturally led her into the recording studio. And it will be this year that sees Joyce use this ambition and dedication to pursue her dream of producing her own music, finally put into effect. She has successfully finished the Audio Engineering diploma at the famous School of Audio Engineering (SAE) in Amsterdam, followed by the more specialized course in Electronic Music Production. My first release is just a matter of time according to Joyce. Producing is hard work and very time consuming. Because Im so busy with my DJ work, there was not much time left for that Her first 12 is soon to be released.
Helen K - Progressive HouseHELEN K Helen K was born March 17, 1987 and originally hails from west Athens/Megara in Greece. She seemed to have a passion for music and creation since a very young age. She started listening to electronic music and experimenting with computers at the age of 10; DJing and buying her first records at the age of 12. Her first steps were the DJ practicing and the growing of her record collection. Mostly influenced by her always respected teacher & guider Muscle K and with his adorable help, she found her main way on Twisted Tribal and Progressive House music. Some of the labels that you'll mostly find inside her record box are: Low Pressings, Twisted, Star 69, Harlem, Choo Choo, Alternative Route, Stereo Productions, Distraekt... Also, her favorite DJs and producers: Steve Lawler, Peter Rauhofer, Danny Tenaglia, Thomas Penton, Victor Calderone, Junior Vasquez, The Low End Specialists, Piliavin & Zimbardo, Satoshi Tomiie, Saeed & Palash, Lexicon Avenue... While she was involved with music, press and design a lot, she created the PLUS DESIGNS project in which she could manage herself: >Web Design & Development. >Logo, Flyer & Card Creations. >Lifestyle, Music & Headline Web Articles. >Web Spot & Radio Advertisements. Year 2002, after accepting a request, she entered and became Release Editor Manager of the famous dance music portal e-djs.gr, which she quit a year later. May 10, 2003, Andrew K (Pure Substance/UL Recs) invited Helen to his radio show on City International FM 106.1 (Thessaloniki city) for a guest DJ set. In August 2003, she develops her first radio advertisement production. Her music guider and headline forwarder Muscle K, requests her to fully organize his radio show advertisement and dance nation acapella jingles. Dance Nation radio show is up every Friday & Saturday on 94.0 FM, 22:00-00:00, with Muscle K. September 2003. Helen becomes CONTENT DIRECTOR at the Global Vibe Network/TheCityVibe.com website; considering lifestyle, clubbing, underground dance, and total music therapy. As a partner of the Webmedia group, she manages the content of TheCityVibe website by writing articles/presentations and reviews. January 23, 2004. Some of the past events Ariel has played at featured the likes of Jerry Bonham, Bill Hamel, Markus Schulz, Innate, Digital Assassins and Donald Glaude. Born to a Japanese mother and an Irish/Swedish father, Ariel Cybana was raised at a small town within the famous Sonoma Wine Country. During her teen years, Ariel discovered modern rock & electronic music and was captivated by bands such as Depeche Mode, Front 242, New Order and Siouxsie & the Banshees to name a few. Music became an escape as well as her solace during her difficult childhood. While other girls in school were buying clothes, Ariel bought records with her lunch money. She hasn t looked back since. From winning the Hooj Choons [Mix of the Month] contest to her vocal debut being caned by many of the top progressive house DJs, Ariel Cybana has proven to be both an accomplished DJ and a vocalist in demand. [Inside Me] by Oxygen featuring Ariel Cybana has made appearances in Deep Dish s Global Underground [Afterclub] CD and DJ Nukem s [Seduction] CD. Never waiting for an opportunity to knock on her door, Ariel Cybana has taken it upon herself to create them. She approached burgeoning internet radio station Eccentricbeats about hosting her own weekly show she named [Provocative]. The name is to signify pushing buttons and to introduce talent Ariel feels need to be heard via through her mixes or her guests. As a result from her ear of discovering talent, Ariel Cybana not only hosts one of the top rated shows on Eccentricbeats, she is also the head of A & R. It is a role Ariel is committed to as several of her former guests currently host their own shows further promoting this hot up and coming internet radio station. Past notable guests on Provocative include Desyn Masiello, Lexicon Avenue, Rui Da Silva, DJ Nukem and many more. In addition to her DJing, Ariel Cybana is working on vocals & acapellas for producers, learning production and does occasional duty as a record reviewer for the premiere progressive house website www.xpander.nl. Another challenge Ariel Cybana has taken on is starting up her own label called Luminol Records. Described by Ariel as a label that reveals the undiscovered, Luminol is set to make its mark promoting Ariel s musical vision even further and could be considered as the first and only progressive house label solely owned by a woman. Through Luminol Records, Ariel Cybana finds yet another outlet to promote the music she loves and is dedicated to putting out the best music she can find. Anna Maria X - Tribal, Tech & ProgressiveANNA MARIA X It was back in 1996 when Anna Maria started her journey into music. After a brief stint working as label manager for BMG Greece, she quickly moved to KLIK FM, which was at the time the highest rated radio station in Greece. Her preference in dance music soon moved her to the weekend slot where for the last 6 years she puts people in a clubbing mood every Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 1 at night. The show being a reference point to all dance music lovers has brought her in contact with some of the greatest djs in the world who usually stop by for a quick live set before their gigs. Even though the radio has always been the number one priority in Anna Maria's work life, she has occasionally flirted with television always doing shows dealing with all aspects of dance music, the last one of which being a three year stint at Mad TV every night, presenting Heineken Zone, a show introducing all that was new in dance music, as well as interviews with international and local djs. That was where she met her husband and father of her daughter, G.Pal. During all these she found the time to hold a weekly to monthly residency at Greece s premier dance club, Soda, playing sets ranging from tribal/tech house to progressive. During those nights she made a point of introducing the new talent slots giving the opportunity for the first time in 2001, to young aspiring djs to try their luck in the booth of the infamous Soda. In 2002, right after the release of G.Pal feat. Anna Maria X- Ocean Of Blue, a lot of things started happening together. First of all, the track found its way to some of the greatest djs in the world sets like Sasha, Digweed, Creamer and K... Saeed and Palash. At the same time she released her first mix compilation AMX-Believer, which reached number 4 in the official IFPI sales chart, was awarded best female Dj/performer in the Athens Dance Music awards, and together with G.PAL secured a residency at the fast rising Lithuanian dance scene as the first woman to ever play there. At that time she took a break for a year to have her baby girl, and then she was back with a vengeance, releasing Believer 2 and currently being in the studio with G.Pal recording new monster tracks, due out on Swift Records. 2005 started with a new GPal and Anna Maria X collaboration, a downtempo track called Within featured in Dave Seaman s new compilation series called ACROSS BORDERS on Audiotherapy. In fact she came a long way from writing, composing and arranging her own vocal melodies to producing her own songs and to djing which she started six years ago. The young Brazilian learned that every new job brings experience and new perspectives. Furthermore, you meet a lot of new and interesting people. All these influences melt into Virginia s very own distinctive sound. For her DJ sets Virginia s main goal is variety.
